I do definitely watch TV and movies from time to time. Really my beef is with social media. TV and movies as media, that's a wagon I just largely fell off of at some point.
I'll still watch a good movie, for sure. Interstellar, Primer, Coherence, Run Lola Run, The Big Short, Contact, Excalibur... But The Expanse, Project Hail Mary, The Martian... I enjoyed the books more than than the movies, and the movies were good. Still haven't read Contact, shamefully.
I fed the list to GPT and asked which ones the OP liked:
- *Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer (1984)* - Highly recommended, really trippy.
- *Groundhog Day (1993)* - The classic, loved it.
- *Run Lola Run (1998)* - Fun with lots of details on rewatches.
- *The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006)* - Highly acclaimed anime adaptation.
- *Timecrimes (2007)* - Classic, intense, and worth watching.
- *Triangle (2009)* - Really good with unexpected twists.
- *Coherence (2013)* - A standout, very good.
- *The Incident (2014)* - One of his absolute favorites.
- *Edge of Tomorrow (2014)* - Pretty great.
- *Blood Punch (2014)* - Pretty good with unique mechanics.
- *Happy Death Day (2017)* - Very good.
- *The Endless (2017)* - The best of the best, though micro-budget.
- *Palm Springs (2020)* - Highly recommended.
- *Boss Level (2020)* - Action-driven, but worth checking out.
- *Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes (2020)* - Very good.
- *Maanaadu (2021)* - An excellent Bollywood time loop movie.
Woah! I knew it was improv, but didn't know it took just 5 days! I'm convinced Coherence trivia is as interesting as the movie.
In case you didn't know: Coherence is almost entirely improv - there was no script, and it was shot in just 5 days. I don't tell people before they watch it, because you can't tell. The cast each got a notecard each day of shooting, but they had no idea what was coming, and even were fed lies about the others.
> "We shot over five days, and instead of a script I had my own 12-page treatment that I spent about a year working on. It outlined all of the twists, and reveals, and character arcs and pieces of the puzzle that needed to happen scene-by-scene. But each day, instead of getting a script, the actors would get a page of notes for their individual character, whether it was a backstory or information about their motivations. They would come prepared for their character only. They had no idea what the other characters received, so each night there were completely real reactions, and surprises and responses. This was all in the pursuit of naturalistic performances. The goal was to get them listening to each other, and engaged in the mystery of it all.
> ...They were completely in the dark. All the surprises you see are real... You’re improvising along with the actors as a director, and cameraman. My DP, Nic Sadler, and I told them, 'You can go anywhere you want in the house and we’ll follow you. We’re not going to rehearse it or block it.' We just treated it almost like a documentary unfolding in front of us."

Seconding Coherence. One of the greatest movies I've ever watched. Primer(2004) and Triangle(2009) are often recommended with it, and rightfully so.
Coherence (2013) is a great low-budget indie film of people in a room talking to each other.
Remind me when I asked a bot once “give me a criminally underrated movie?” And refused to answer, after some tweaking it said “Coherence” and it turned out to be a good oneb
If you enjoy independent films that mostly consist of people talking in very few different locations, I strongly recommend Coherence. It's pretty different but I think I enjoyed both of these for similar reasons.
Coherence (2013) was pretty good though. Haven't really seen a quantum entanglement movie after that one.

This style of improvised natural dialog is called "mumble-core". It's refreshing, but unfortunately not preferred by the highly polished products of TV and cinema today.
This list is fun movies that have some kind of physics theme.
Coherence was a really fun movie shot an absolute shoestring budget but it's about like a magic comet that unlocks parallel universes at a dinner party. It's high-concept sci-fi and not realistic at all.
I happen to love certain niche movie genres, which happens to include "dinner party movies". Feel free to list some recommendations, if you like "people talk in a room" movies.
Some of my favories:
Coherence (scifi) Garden Party (sleazy young adult Los Angeles drama) Murder Party (low budget horror comedy) How English sounds to non-English speakers (youtube) Circle 2015 (scifi)
Coherence (2013) is very enjoyable.

The Thing (1982), Slither, Dark Skies, Intacto (spanish), Another Earth, Coherence
Primer is on here a bunch, but really worth watching if you like time travel conundrums.
Along similar lines to Primer (both in terms of story and production), you might enjoy the film Coherence...
