I punched in 1972 and there were some fantastic movies that year (The Godfather, Deliverance, Cabaret, Solaris, Jeremiah Johnson, Aguirre - the Wrath of God, The Last House on the Left, Silent Running, The Heartbreak Kid, Fat City, etc.).
Also tried 1973 — same (The Day of the Jackal, Soylent Green, Westworld, The Wicker Man, Papillon, American Graffiti, The Sting, Serpico, Mean Streets, High Plains Drifter, Don't Look Now, Badlands, The Long Goodbye, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Three Musketeers, Fantastic Planet, etc.).
I think they simply made better movies decades ago.
Don't Look Now is one of those unforgettable 1970s movies so ahead of their time, along with The Marathon Man and very few others. And it's spooky indeed, hard to bear if you've got a child. RIP
Don't Look Now is one of my favorite movies! So weird and spooky.
Great actor. My favorite movie with him will always be the spooky Don't Look Now (1973) with Julie Christie.
Edit: originally had written the year as 1873!
The other two films in what Carpenter calls his "Apocalypse Trilogy" are also well worth watching: "Prince of Darkness" and "In the Mouth of Madness". Neither has aged quite so well, but both are good and interesting horror films.
I feel that "Suspiria" and "Don't Look Now" are actually the best horror films ever made, but de gustibus non est disputandum, as they say.
I got lost in Venice once when i'd just arrived. It was midnight on a sunday and there weren't many people around as I was trying not to think about the film "Don't look now". It was about then that i realised that although i had what looked like the hotel's address, it wasn't going to be quite that simple to find.
