I think you’d have to participate, but this was a real thing and it was fun.

For example, there is one that was a making sort of Macy’s thanksgiving day-style parade floats.

And you could pick virtually any content type and see this interpreted as “real” floats.

It did not require a ton of effort, for example you could reply to the above example existing with the prompt “do this, but have the float theme be ‘meet the feebles’”

And if you know of that film and recognized the AI’s interpretation of it in that context and it was half decent it was entertaining.

Not all “trends” if you can call them that were so simple to do well with.

Often the prompts needed to be elaborate and required multiple generations to really get a feel for if you were on the right track.

I think they did have something here and probably someone will do it again and it will work.

    > It’s certainly darker than something like Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films...

Huh. Why not also compare Jackson's puppet/splatter films, Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, heck even Braindead?

I use exactly two approaches. First is I buy movies (and sometimes TV shows) on iTunes. Second, I do pirate. But for me, I only pirate when the movie I'm looking for is not available. The moment I can buy it on iTunes, I do, and ditch the pirated copy that I have. So for me it is entirely about availability. And before anyone says that if I subscribed to a half dozen steaming services I'd have that availability, I'll say that most, if not all the movies that I have pirated are very obscure things that I have never seen on any service--Baby of Macon, Meet the Feebles, Underground, and (surprisingly) most recently Spider.

Meet the Feebles never seems to come up either.. one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meet_the_Feebles

I was a huge Peter Jackson fan prior, due primarily to Meet the Feebles (still my secret guilty pleasure), and it was just so bizarre to see him move from low budget camp like MTF and Dead Alive, to a $300million dollar massive endeavor.

From my very limited experience as a DP on several friends low budget films, the organizational efforts to produce a film the size of LOTR is lightyears beyond films like MTF. Of course later films like The Frighteners or Heavenly Creatures probably helped him build up to being able to manage that.

I have a huge list of movies (and a few TV shows) that don't seem to have made the jump. Some are great (the BBC series of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smiley's People), some of them are very cult (Meet the Feebles), and some are just bad (Poor White Trash II, originally titled Scum of the Earth). Everyone said that streaming would make the "long tail" accessible because the costs to transfer and distribute would be so low, but that doesn't seem to have happened, at least to the extent that I'd like.

(I've had the same issue with music--my MP3 collection consists of a few dozen LPs that I've ripped because they were never digitized and added to the different services.)
