Muscle Shoals
2013 · Film · documentary · 111 min
Directed by Greg 'Freddy' Camalier
In a tiny Alabama town with the curious name of Muscle Shoals, something miraculous sprang from the mud of the Tennessee River. A group of unassuming, yet incredibly talented, locals came together and spawned some of the greatest music of all time: “Mustang Sally,” “I Never Loved a Man,” “Wild Horses,” and many more. During the most incendiary periods of racial hostility, white folks and black folks came together to create music that would last for generations and gave birth to the incomparable “Muscle Shoals sound.”

In the Muscle Shoals documentary Lynyrd Skynyrd's guitarist says the two guitar solos in Sweet Home Alabama came to him note for note in a dream.
There's an interesting documentary about this Alabama studio "Muscle Shoals" available on Netflix & Amazon Prime. Seems an awful lot of good music came out of there. Combination of excellent studio musicians, production and maybe a magical local vibe.
Finding an music/artists you like and seeing who their influences are and checking them out may be one path. DJ's can cut through that even faster since they surface and reference more material.
There are also a lot of movies out there - Béla Fleck made a movie tracing the banjo back to africa Throw Down Your Heart, if your looking to chronological type stuff in America, Ken Burns did a series on American Jazz and Country music - https://www.pbs.org/kenburns, Muscle Shoals, Buena Vista Social Club, The Nu LatAm Sound may be of interest for non western movies

so much music, so little time!
There is a film by that title - "Muscle Shoals" - too. I think I saw it on Netflix. It'll drop yer jaw how much stuff was done there. The players? Just local country boys who learned on the job.
