The old PBS New Yankee Workshop episodes are on YouTube. Norm Abram uses a lot of power and specialty tools especially in the later seasons but in the first season or two his shop and projects are pretty simple.

Have you never seen a barn raising by the Amish?[0] Have you never seen an episode of The Woodwright's Shop[1]? There are plenty of woodcraft workers that do not use electricity to build their wood projects. If you put aside the requirement that electricity is not allowed, then there are even more skilled wood craftsmen. Try The New Yankee Workshop[2]

I'm hoping with a little bit of curiosity on your part, you might be able to eliminate some of your ignorance on this topic.

Not a class or course per-se, but I've found the New Yankee Workshop TV show to be really helpful and informative:

Love the thoroughness of that piece, and the site in general takes me back to watching episodes on TV of The New Yankee Workshop [1] with Norm Abram [2].

As an aspiring woodworker and handyman, I just want to suggest This Old House Insider [1]

The subscription gives you access to the entire This Old House and Ask This Old House library. They're in the process of adding all New Yankee Workshop episodes as well as PDF plans of those projects (normally $14.99 each). It's become my Sunday morning go-to now.

The most recent episodes of the current season are also available on PBS Passport which you can get for a $5 monthly donation to your local station.

Edit: It's something like $95.60/year. I've been getting it as a gift so didn't realize how bad the signup form was. Also, they don't have any app/roku support yet so I cast the video from Chrome.
