is this the phone Val Kilmer had in the movie The Saint? badass phone
I have seen and enjoyed quite a few Val Kilmer movies, but his special appearance in 'Top Gun:Maverick' was heartwarming (the scene where he jovially asks Maverick, "who was the better pilot between the two of us").
Tombstone and Saint were such nice movies too. Underrated, with a distinct comedic touch. A talent gone before his time.
Nobody has mentioned the less geeky but still excellent remake of The Saint.
A film that started a life long love affair of phones with keyboards (hacking scenes with one of the original Nokia 9000 phones, which I have owned the 9290 and e90). It featured some of the same smirking jokey presence that Kilmer was known for, but with more action and political intrigue.
I thought he was awesome in The Saint and that it was an awesome movie, complete with a fantastic soundtrack from that era:

Me too, because of "The Saint" movie - I was a bit fascinated for some time. Like an alternative 007.
I wonder why „The Saint“ is not mentioned. Loved the movie and the different characters played by val kilmer.
Schwartz's less-than-comforting informal advice: "If you are prosecuted, Stanford will defend you. But if you're found guilty, we can't pay your fine and we can't go to jail for you."
My impression is that it sounds like a super polite version of the Keanu Reeves movie Chain Reaction or the Val Kilmer flick The Saint in which people in possession of world changing knowledge must flee for their lives.
Being "disruptive" has a reputation for making scads of money these days. Perhaps people should stop and think about how it can also make you enemies, make you a target, etc.
Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it.
Val Kilmer in The Saint used the first gen Nokia Communicator. Loved everything about that movie when I was a kid.
> Also when did “techno” become an umbrella term again?
I would guess in the '90s, when there was a lot more crossover between electronic music and other genres. Rock and hiphop oriented stuff like the Prodigy and Chemical Brothers were topping the dance charts, and other more conventional techno like Aphex Twin and Underworld were getting decent media coverage as well.
Plus movie soundtracks at the time tended to include a lot of techno. Trainspotting, Pi, Hackers, The Jackal, The Saint....discovered a lot of artists thanks to these.

And from my spy movie expertise:
Turn the heater in the room full blast to achieve the needed thermal level (The Saint, Sneakers)
